Most people have no idea what their home's water pressure is running at. That's the problem. High pressure is one of those things that quietly destroys plumbing from the inside - wearing down fixtures, stressing joints, and shortening the lifespan of your water heater and appliances. By the time you notice something is wrong, the damage is already done.
Here's what we were working with at this Milton property - pressure sitting at nearly 150 PSI. That's almost three times higher than the safe range. On top of that, the old main shutoff wouldn't fully close, which means in an actual emergency, cutting off the water supply wasn't even a reliable option. Two serious problems sitting right there at the main line.
We replaced the old setup with a new PRV - a pressure reducing valve - to bring everything down to a safe 55 PSI. We also swapped in a full-port ball valve for the main shutoff, which gives a clean, full stop when you need it. And we tagged the shutoff clearly so anyone in the house knows exactly where it is and what it does. Simple details that matter a lot when something goes wrong fast.
That's really what a job like this is about. It's not glamorous work. But a properly sized PRV and a functioning main shutoff are two of the most important things on your plumbing system. They protect your pipes, your appliances, and your ability to respond quickly if a leak or burst ever happens. Whether it's a residential call or part of our commercial plumbing services, getting the basics right up front saves everyone money down the road.
If your water pressure has never been checked, it's worth a look. High pressure is easy to fix before it becomes an expensive repair.
