Bathroom odors are one of those things homeowners tend to assume are a drain or sewer issue. Sometimes they are. But not always. This one took a little detective work to sort out.
The smell was coming from a tub that hadn't seen regular use in a while. When a tub sits unused, the water in the P-trap can evaporate - and once that water barrier is gone, sewer gases have a clear path up and into the room. That was part of what we were dealing with here. We repaired the valve on the tub to get water flowing properly again, which is the first step in making sure the trap stays full and doing its job.
On top of that, the shutoff valves at the lavatory sink were worn out and needed to go. Old shutoffs are one of those things that get ignored until they fail at the worst possible time. Replacing them is straightforward general plumbing work, but it matters - both for function and for peace of mind.
Once everything was repaired and back in working order, the odor issue was resolved. No guesswork, no unnecessary demo. Just a clear diagnosis and the right fix. That's how we approach every bathroom plumbing call.
Plumbing problems don't always announce themselves with an obvious leak or a clog. Sometimes it's just a smell that shouldn't be there. If something seems off and you can't figure out why, that's exactly the kind of thing worth having looked at.
